Evidently, Prime Minister Trudeau has forced Ambassador to China John McCallum to resign over a truism the latter iterated, which could have evolved to help the case of the Canadians currently in trouble in China.
The rowdy, whimpering politicians here at home ceased that opportunity to criticize Professor McCallum’s remarks, who stated that Ms. Meng Wanzhou, the Huawei CFO arrested in Vancouver on behalf of a bullying US government that dictates the terms of how the world should conduct business, could make a case against extradition to the US, a very valid, sensible remark.
I had the pleasure to run into Mr. MacCallum and his wife on Champs-Élysées, Paris, in August 2016. At the time, he was Minister of Immigration. My wife and I spent about 10 minutes conversing in a friendly manner, we thanked him for his public service, and parted smiling. A rare politician with good intentions, quite a scarcity that the Canadian politics will miss.
