This great work of literature by Victor Hugo is available at Gutenberg.

Rough translation of the stanza in the image:

Progress and ideas,
A bridge of one hundred thousand cubits,
None of which breaks apart.
And through your dark tides,
Those disproportionate arches,
Shall brightly shine.

My copy of the 1958 English translation by Prof. Wang Jizhen of Cao Xueqin’s Dream of the Red Chamber (红楼梦) has arrived.

I am very excited to read this masterpiece in its most venerable English translation and I look forward to reading it in Chinese once my mastery of the language has reached a modestly high level.
